“Never use the word “cheap”. Today everybody can look chic in inexpensive clothes (the rich buy them too). There is good clothing design on every level today. You can be the chicest thing in the world in a T-shirt and jeans — it’s up to you. ” – Karl Lagerfeld
Dress like you are Rich baby!
OK, so not everyone’s idea of “Rich” is the same, so let me qualify this for you. The lovely Gale sent me a question “How do you make “cheap” clothes look expensive and is is possible to wear expensive clothes and make them look “”cheap”?”
Thanks for the question Gale, it’s a goodie!
Cheap – Expensive: If you don’t have a budget the size of a small nation, then it’s probable that you will want to buy “cheap” garments to fill up your wardrobe. As Mr Lagerfeld states, it is possible to buy inexpensive garments, make sure they are a fabulous design and you will look amazing. Gale asked me this question as she had seen me in a jacket that I had purchased at a ridiculously low price and asked me how did I make it look worth more……… the answer is pretty simple. It’s dressing with a mindset that you want to look like you’ve invested more of your money into looking good (than is actually necessary) and then having the confidence to back yourself!
And yes, it’s possible to buy and wear expensive garments and make them look “cheap”. Again, it’s all down to the styling and grooming as well as the attitude!
My style isn’t your style: in this weeks episode, I’ve experimented 5 different looks using a $7.00 t-shirt from K-Mart. The idea is that the T-Shirt is the centre piece for creating a look and the concept is to make the outfit look more expensive (every outfit that I’m wearing would have cost $150.00 or less, with the exception of shoes).
Tell me what you think! Do the outfits look Cheap n Chic or just plain ole cheap?
And tell me more, out of all of your garments in your wardrobe, what’s your favourite “cheap” item vs the most “expensive”?
With love and super-styled hugs
