Getting up every morning and getting dressed, prepped and preened for the day should never be a chore.  It should be a joyful experience that makes you feel Who You Are and expresses and communicates Your Essential Self.

Connecting the elements of Grooming and Clothing with your internal Essence gives you the Ultimately Stylish kick start to a Beautifully Rich day.

Many of my clients in the past have said to me that they don’t have time in the morning to apply make-up, do their hair or to fix their nails let alone have a wardrobe full of clothes ready to go each day.

If you “don’t” have the time then why are you not “making time”.  I have heard every single excuse under the sun from Women in Business who have limiting beliefs around having no time.  E.g. they have to get the kids ready for school, make breakfast, pack lunches, do a load of washing which are all necessary tasks, I know.

These excuses are exactly the same for not exercising or eating healthy food.  There really is no difference and there really are no excuses.

To dress well, eat well or to exercise and have a fantastic overall look you MUST FIRST HAVE TO WANT TO.

You heard me.  You have to want to look good.  And guess what?  When you look good, you feel good too.  And when you feel good on the inside, it shows and glows on the outside.  And guess what?  It rubs off!  People want to know you, do business with you and have a little bit of what you’ve got.  Have you ever heard the saying “can I have a little of what she’s got” when there is an infectious person in the room?

How do you get your look working for you?

First things first, commit to looking and feeling good every single day.

Secondly, get organised.  If you “think you have no time” then you need to make some changes so that you find the time to ensure that your look is working for you.

No-one needs any longer than 20 minutes in the morning to get ready, all it takes it a little preparation (just like packing a suitcase to go on holiday) and a few tweaks here and there and you’ll have your mornings running like clockwork and you’ll walk out the door in your Ultimate Style.

20 minutes?  Yes, only 20.  Give or take 10 depending on the time frame you allow yourself.

The preparation can all be done in the evening.  Not on the weekend when it’s family or quality time with your partner.  Get it done before you go to bed.  This can also be worked into your routine as part of necessary “me time” which is your own 20 or 30 minutes after you’ve put the kids to bed, had your dinner etc.

Grooming Essentials:

If you have long hair and it takes longer than 30 minutes to wash, dry, straighten, tong etc in the morning, why not wash it the night before.  Add in a beautiful overnight serum so that in the morning all you have to do is a touch up with your tongs or iron.

Your nails need a refresh?  Do you watch TV in the evening?  If this is your down time, multi-task and get your nails looking like you’ve stepped out of the nail salon whilst you are watching that square box. And most of us can get away with doing this once a week.

Who hates ironing?  I know I do, I always feel like it’s time I will never get back, but it’s a necessary evil.  Instead of getting the board out, use your iron as a steamer on your skirts and dresses to cut down the time.  Even better, invest in a garment steamer.  You can power through the pile in no time at all, shirts and blouses become fun to steam as you watch the wrinkles disappear.  Fun, yeah I’m a little odd but there’s a certain satisfaction I get from steaming my clothes!

Waxing, plucking and pulling.  Make sure you keep this all up to date, no-one likes to see straggling eyebrow hairs or a mo on a Lady.  And as we get older, more hairs appear in the places we’d like to not see them, so get rid of them.  You only really need to do this once a week.

Make-up is essential to complete your look ladies.  I know lots of you out there disagree with me, all you need is a little mascara and a touch of lipstick if you really aren’t that keen on make-up.  However, our eyes relate to colour and contours.  So when you add a lick of colour to your lips, a touch of rouge on your cheeks and a lash of mascara on your eyes, you instantly give yourself some contouring that makes you visually more appealing.  As you age, less is definitely more (and it always is anyway) but a little is always worth the effort.

Polishing shoes.  Yes if you wear leather pumps to work you need to polish them.  If the heels are looking a little worse for wear, send them to be repaired.  Scuffs on toes are a big no-no.  If you can’t afford new shoes, invest in some polish and buff them up.  EVERYONE looks at shoes and they are a sure sign of how well you look after yourself.  You can look absolutely immaculate, but if your shoes are scuffed or mis-matched to your outfit, the whole look can be thrown off and let you down.

Dressing:

Get organised!  Set up your wardrobe so that you have a full weeks worth of business attire ready at your disposal.  I like to set my wardrobe up on a Sunday and have each day’s look ready to wear (accessories included on the hanger) so that all I have to do is get up, get showered, apply my make-up, fix my hair and get my gear on.  It takes me 20 minutes.

All it takes is a little practice, some know-how and you can be looking your most Ultimately Stylish self every day in very little time.

Have a beautifully rich day.

Love Susan xxx
